Morgan Russell- The Way
For a film to hold my attention it usually must be both humorous and deep in meaning. The Way had both and was a great film in my opinion. It is hard for me to take Martin Sheen or Emilio Estevez seriously because of some of thier previous roles, but I quickly got over that and was actually pretty moved by their father-son relationship. The idea of a "true pilgrim" was an interesting point that stood out for me. I don't think anyone else can say if someone is a true pilgrim or not, it is only known to the pilgrim themselves if they find what they set out to seek. Since all of them are on the pilgrimage for different reasons it is impossible to compare their own journeys to each others.
There were some great shots of the landscapes and the film makers almost made you feel like you were along on the pilgrimage with them. It makes you want to take the journey through Spain yourself. One other thing that jumped out at me was the humorous character of Joost. He reminded me a a lot of Jons from the Seventh Seal because he was the happy go lucky character with little regard for deeper meaning but rather just lived in the moment.
Definitely a great film worth watching again sometime.
