The
Way was possibly the movie I most enjoyed so far (except for possibly
Big Fish) I really was fascinated with the whole concept of a
pilgrimage, I've never really learned much about it, or its benefits.
I used to consider it mostly about traveling to a destination of
meaning, and that's the point. Also I attached the idea that it was
largely something done out of necessity or tradition. The destination
is what is significant. After seeing this movie and discussing it
afterwards, I'm understanding it in a much more holistic way. I think
a pilgrimage is really about the journey (not merely the
destination), and many pilgrimages are for yourself, not just to
fulfill a tradition. I also thought it was interesting to talk after
class about how pilgrimages compare to meditation. Its cool to think
of it fulfilling the same purpose (enlightenment, acceptance, healing
ect) but in a physical, outwardly fashion. Great movie! Now I wanna
take one!
