Viewing the film, Northfork, felt like watching a town during a state of limbo. The cinematography and the almost barren state of the town created a macabre atmosphere. I never felt hope for the survival of the town; it was dead from the start of the film, hence the feeling of limbo. This notion became stronger through the whimsical, dream-like experiences of the young, dying boy. Death is a reoccurring theme in the film, as the boy and the town are both fading into another world. I think that it is arguable that the coated men symbolize angels. Although they do try to get people to move on, it is not into another state of being, such as heaven or the afterlife. They also take orders from a grumpy man who appears to lack empathy and it only trying to me a quota. If keeping with the idea of angels, then I would automatically assume that whoever they are taking orders from is God. This scenario does not make much sense to me in this story. I saw the priest as more of an angel because he aided the boy while near death and appeared to be the purest character in the story.
