Northfolk was a very interesting movie. I wasn’t quite sure
what the meaning behind it was, and I’m still not sure I fully understand it.
However, I do know that during the film my emotions were going crazy. I felt
for the boy in the story immensely. They fact that he was an orphan and nobody
wanted him broke my heart. It made sense to me, that he was dreaming of angels
and that they ended up taking him away as he passed on. However, I was confused
as to why they were selling all the houses and making everyone move out of the
town. I know that there was a flood coming, but I didn’t understand why it was
so important to get everyone out and that the men who did were so stressed over
their jobs. Oh, and then I was even more confused by the angel wings. Was it a
town full of angel’s before the people cut their wings off? I was also confused as to why the two stories
connected, about the boy and then about the town flooding. The best I can do is
wonder if it was a film about death: death of a child and death of a town.
Perhaps it was showing that although there is death, there is also the promise
of something after. For instance, the boy was taken away by angels into a new
life, and the town was flooded and turned into a beautiful lake afterwards?
Then there was the father son relationship who had to deal with the death of
their wife/mother. I wish I had understood the movie a little bit more because
its not that I didn’t like it. It just didn’t make as much sense to me as I’d hoped.
