The
Way was possibly the movie I most enjoyed so far (except for Big Fish). I really was fascinated with the whole concept of pilgrimage, I've never really learned much about it, or its benefits.
I used to consider it mostly about traveling to a destination of
meaning, and that's the point of them. Also attached was the idea that it was
largely something done out of necessity or tradition. After seeing this movie and discussing it
afterwards, I'm understanding it in a much more holistic way. I think
a pilgrimage is really about the journey (not merely the
destination), and many pilgrimages are for yourself, not just to
fulfill a tradition of others. I also thought it was interesting to talk after
class about how pilgrimages compare to meditation. Its cool to think
of it fulfilling the same purpose (enlightenment, acceptance, healing
ect) but in a physical, outward fashion. Great movie! Now I wanna
take one!
