Morgan Russell - Northfork

Northfork was a very interesting film to me in many aspects. The visuals were stunning and the imagery unmistakable. The biblical references are apparent throughout with the reoccuring theme of angels and also including an especially interesting character building an ark. However, in place of two of each animal he simply has two wives. I also thoroughly enjoyed the subtle humor throughout the film. Wise-cracks were almost the only insight into the character's dispositions. Erwin's visions were also a point of interest. I wasn't exactly sure what to make of them, at first thinking they were visions of the family he dreamed for himself. But then when James Wood's character encounters the same strange cast in a vision of his own, it seems they are supernatural residents of the desolate town of Northfork. A feeling of death looms over the whole town, and makes the whole film very creepy. Nevertheless, the film makers were able to create a compelling world in such a mundane town and dire situation. In the end, it becomes impossible to separate dream from reality in Northfork
