Michelle Breland--Outside Reading (1)

In doing research for my final paper, I have had to study the Book of Genesis. The film that I am writing about has a lot of feminist undertones and has left me pondering the female role in the Book of Genesis. The woman, Eve, is viewed as the mother who gave birth to man and original sin. I find it possible and easy to nurture the interpretation that women are evil and manipulative. I do not personally believe this idea but, for me, it came through the literature quite clearly. Through our discussion in relation to the film Big Fish we have learned that not all stories are completely true--that actual events may or may not have occurred exactly as they were told. Some stories are embellished (turned into myths) in order to interface with the primary world. I find myths to be extremely subjective and it makes me question which parts of the story to really consider and take to heart. Is the book of Genesis about the wickedness of women or is gender irrelevant to the story? I personally find that every detail in every story plays an important role in its message, but maybe that is my dilemma.
